Fly fish Belize, saltwater destination, Mothership Rising Tide, Tarpon on the Fly, Fly fish saltwater adventure for bonefish, permit, and tarpon.

It’s the water – and in Belize, it’s definitely the water and the world’s second largest barrier reef that makes this destination special.  Lots of options here – it does depend on what sort of experience you’re looking for and the make up of your group or family.

To begin, there is what many believe to be the top saltwater adventure anywhere – the Belize Mothership Trip.  Staffed by Captain Dean Myers and his able crew, you and your group of 2, 3, 4, or 6 live on the shallow waters inside the reef on your own personal floating lodge – i.e., a comfortable, air conditioned, live-aboard yacht.

Behind the mothership your flats skiffs are towed, from which you will pursue tarponbonefishsnookbarracuda, and can access the world’s finest permit flats.

There are a variety of coastal options in Belize. For a top-of-the-line couple’s island get-away, there is Cayo Espanto.

Ambergris Caye, as well as some of the other cayes, offer different forms of island family getaways.

The eastern edge of the Turneffe Islands is one of the most beautiful spots in the  world.  Both Turneffe Island Lodge and Turneffe Flats Lodge provide slightly different experiences.

The "Rising Tide" - Mothership

Fly fish Belize, saltwater destination, Mothership Rising Tide, Fly fish saltwater adventure for bonefish, permit, and tarpon.

Your mothership, the Rising Tide, comes with an experienced captain (who doubles as the head guide) and the steward/cook who basically spends the day doing the housekeeping and preparing meals to meet the fishing schedule.

Since there is no one else on board but the people you bring with you (and the crew), the nature of this trip is such that it is a great experience for small groups of friends and family that enjoy spending time together.

To those familiar with the Belize mothership approach, there is no better way to cover the options than living on the protected waters inside the Belize barrier reef, the second largest barrier reef in the world. What brings our regulars back each year, in spite of the sometimes fickle tropical weather, are these aspects:

  •  A comfortable, bug free (with rare exception), air conditioned living environment with home-cooked meals prepared around the fishing hours.
  • Control of the schedule – fish basically whatever hours you want. Start early and fish late.
  • Privacy – no one to answer to or dress for. Separation from the rest of the world.
  • Native captains and guides who love to be on the water and who pursue the sight fishing opportunities with passion.
  • A spectacular shallow water and reef marine environment – it’s just a great place to be.
  • While this is primarily a fishing adventure, other activities like visiting Cays, snorkeling and scuba diving can be incorporated.

Your price includes virtually everything except personal beverages, tips, and fishing equipment. A supply of purified water, soft drinks, and native Belikan Beer is on board. Prices listed below are for the standard seven night trip.

A trip for three or four would include a crew of three. The captain and mate would serve as your two guides and the cook/steward would take care of the culinary and housekeeping needs. Two flats skiffs with 40HP outboards would be towed and used for your daily excursions. The charter price for a party of five or six would include three guides; party of two would include one guide.
