Stalking and sight casting to the large rainbows and browns of New Zealand is a truly world class fly fishing experience. Additionally, when you consider also the other multiple wonders and charms of New Zealand, it does make this a wonderful vacation destination. New Zealand is one of those few places on earth where a couple’s trip can be combined with one of the globe’s great fly fishing adventures. The stalking approach used on its crystalline rivers and streams makes each fish a memorable experience, whether it ends up in the net or not.
Our role at Fly Fishing Adventures is to put together itineraries that attempt to match client’s objectives:
There are so many options to consider and, through communication with you, we can narrow the choices down to form an agenda which will fit the logistics of NZ. Guide and lodge choice is critical to a successful NZ flyfishing adventure. The “right” guides get you on the “right” waters regardless of conditions.
We work with all the world class lodges as well as the top independent guides on both islands.
Why avoiding "famous Rivers"?
Generally, we specialize in the “quality” rather than “quantity” aspect of trout fishing in New Zealand – i.e., stalking lunkers on streams and rivers without footprints on the streams edge.
Usually, we avoid the “famous rivers” because, even in New Zealand, the famous rivers have deep footpaths worn near their banks. However, our primary objective is to create an itinerary that meets the objectives of the traveler and, if those objectives incorporate some of the “famous rivers” and waters with greater numbers of smaller fish, then they are included.
We do enjoy the aspect that some of our favorite streams and rivers don't even warrant a mention in most of the many books about “where to fly fish in New
Zealand.” We believe that having the right guide (or fishing from the “right lodge”) is the key to getting to the right waters.
Overall, itinerary planning for New Zealand is a personalized process because of the many options, budgetary considerations, and different approaches. A couple’s itinerary will have different elements than a “hard core” fishing itinerary – unless the couple are both “hard core” fly fishers (i.e., addicts). Accommodations range from farm stays and campouts to “world class” fly fishing lodges and luxury country inns – there is an amazing array of these properties.
The planning process starts with reviewing tentative itineraries that may meet the traveler’s objectives. Those tentative itineraries create discussion points and we begin a “messaging process” until the perfect itinerary is defined. After that we present a personal trip plan to you within the budget you intent to spend.
As FFTC Member with a valid membership you get savings to the regular rate you will normally pay.
As with many of the world’s top fly fishing destinations, the top guides and lodges in NZ book up early for the prime time – often as early as 12 months ahead.
Planning far in advance allows for us to get the top options available for the time frame we need for your itinerary.
