Exploration of the Wilderness of Alaska

We organized this trip with the kind support of the McGee family and the team of ATA Alaska Trophy Adventures Lodge. At this point many thanks to Wayne McGee for the arrangements he has done to make this trip become true.

What can you expect?

This fishing itinerary incorporates the comfort lodge package, giving you access to the remote wilderness of Alaska. You`ll have the opportunity to fish both styles, wading and Drift-boat fishing.

ATA lodge home waters are the home to what is one of the largest runs of all five species of pacific salmon to be found in the same river anywhere in the world.

ATA Lodge has the unique privilege of offering the sport fishing enthusiast, one of the most dramatic dream destinations on the planet to target not only all five species of pacific salmon, but also leopard rainbow trout, arctic grayling, arctic char, dolly varden, lake trout and even northern pike! While at ATA Lodge, you will have to constantly re-mind yourself to stop and appreciate the scenery because the fishing is so great. You may have heard the saying “it’s called fishing not catching”; but a stay at ATA Lodge can often seem like catching!

Your adventure starts daily at ATA Alaska Trophy Adventures lodge, beautifully situated on the banks of the Alagnak river

The ATA is situated on the remote banks of Alaska’s first ever designated Wild and Scenic River. The location on the Alagnak Wild River makes ATA Lodge the perfect wilderness fishing retreat. Boasting a world-famous run of all five species of pacific salmon, the Alagnak is also home to a host of resident fish as well, such as leopard rainbow trout, arctic char and grayling. This prestigious river is located within the Katmai National Park, with its headwaters in the surrounding mountains and flowing into Bristol Bay. It is also famously known as “The Branch River” for its seemingly endless braids, where 10 miles of river can easily contain 30 miles of fishable waters. With such exclusive river access you are sure not to be bothered by any crowds. A perfect place to explore the wilderness of Alaska with an experienced fishing guide on your side.

The Alagnak River flows through a wild land of captivating landscapes and abundant wild-life. Meandering down this braided river, you will discover bald eagles perched atop spruce trees in boreal forests. You will gaze at moose browsing above the river bank in the wet sedge tundra as well as encounter unprecedented numbers of Alaskan brown bears feasting upon the salmon returning to our river to spawn! This is why ATA are considered by many who have visited Alaska numerous times, as having the "whole package". They have found what they had been looking for in an Alaska Fishing Trip fulling the vision of the Alaska they had always dreamed about!

Your Hosts - The McGee Family

After booking your flight to Anchorage (ANC) you will need to arrange a flight from Anchorage to King Salmon (AKN). Only 2 airlines fly to King Salmon daily: Alaska Airlines and Pen Air. All guests are requested to be at the King Salmon airport by 9:00 am on the day they are scheduled to start their week at ATAL. This means that you will need to either arrive on the first flight in the morning, or arrive the night before and stay overnight in King Salmon at a local hotel. We have never had a guest miss the charter flight if they choose to come in the night before and stay over in King Salmon. Flights to ATAL start in the morning around 10:00 AM from King Salmon. A friendly local air charter service handles all flights to our lodge. The fee is USD 375 per person for your round-trip journey between King Salmon and our Lodge. All their pilots are highly experienced and their aircraft meet the strictest safety regulations. Lean back and have your camera ready for an incredible flight over the Katmai National Park.

On their departure day we strongly encourage our guests schedule a late afternoon flight out of King Salmon to Anchorage in order not to miss your connecting flights. As I’m sure you can imagine, weather can occasionally cause delays in Alaska.

ATA Lodge terms of payment:

A 50% deposit is required to secure all reservations within 15 days of making the booking. A trip is 'booked' upon receipt of an email or fax indicating agreement to the basic itinerary.
