There is an 700 years old castle at the island of Funen in Denmark - this is our Royal sea trout program

The sea trout is also called the fish of a thousand castsThis is certainly partly true, but it may be outdated. Usually, the key to success is finding eating fish. If you achieve that, you usually are succesful. Another point that sometimes intimidates guests is the huge expanse of water that has to be fished. Especially with the fly rod you can quickly feel lost without local knowledge (even if this is for no reason - sea trout love to stay close to land in shallow water). Local know-how and flexibility are therefore keys for your fishing success.

Funen is an island east of mainland Jutland and west of the island of Zealand, on which the capital Copenhagen is located. Around the island there are perfect sea trout beaches with the typical leopard bottom. This consists of stones, sandy areas and seaweed and provides good shelter for the sea trout food, and also protection for the sea trout should a seal appear, for example.

The Baltic Sea and the Sea trout

The sea trout stocks in the Baltic Sea have improved significantly in recent decades through the work of associations and institutions in the field of renaturation.

This can also be seen on the German coasts, but the pioneer of habitat improvements was and is certainly the island of Funen in Denmark . For almost three decades, streams have been renatured here, sea trout hatched and released and finally protected through sustainable tourism. Catch & Release applies to colored fish anyway, but silver sea trout are also increasingly being gently put back into their element. The result is impressive: there is hardly a better place than the island of Funen if you want to get to your coastal sea trout.

The Castle Broholm

The accommodation of the Royal Seatrout program could hardly be more spectacular: it is Broholm Castle, which is over 700 years old. This is a privately operated property, which is financed by agriculture and forestry. The castle was renovated in 2002 and since then has offered guests the opportunity to stay overnight in its rooms. There are rooms with en-suite bathrooms and rooms with shared bathrooms. What they all have in common is that they are furnished with original, antique pieces of furniture. The castle also has several halls in which you can e.g. can hang out by the fireplace, or even enjoy dinner. For the fishing guests there is a heated drying room for wading clothes.

There is a restaurant in the castle that serves fine cuisine. A wine cellar with a fine assortment rounds off the culinary offer.

Of course, you are welcome to bring your partner or family with you to such a spectacular setting. There is a lot to discover on Fyn that is not related to fishing. Typically you can go cycling, follow in the footsteps of Hans-Christian Andersen, discover the Funen Chocolate Route, explore Odense, visit castles, and much more. Talk to us about your wishes as a family!

A Luxery Stay with exquisite cuisine

We are offering exactly this option to our guests with our Royal Seatrout trip . We lead small groups to the hotspots of Funen with a stable and unsinkable aluminum boat with local guides. For mobility, the boat has a 100hp outboard motor, while fishing you move quietly with an electric motor. Fishing is much more visual than wading because you stand high and see the fish sometimes coming to the fly. Up to two guests can fish from the boat, with larger groups you can rotate between boat fishing and wading. In this way, we fish more efficiently than many other anglers, who usually have to wade from place to place by car.

In addition to this flexibility , we are convinced that this type of sea trout fishing makes most sense with a guide in order to be able to benefit as much as possible from the local know-how .

In addition to the beaches, there are several offshore islands. Famous ones are, for example, Helnaes Bay, Svendborg Sund or Aebelø, to name a few. These are not fished by most anglers as they are mostly inaccessible without a boat. As mentioned at the beginning, the key is finding eating fish. So if you move with little effort, you have a clear advantage over the other fishermen.

Our trips are based on full service, i.e. guiding, full board, overnight stays in the castle and rental cars or transfers.

If you haven't had enough after a day fishing on the Baltic Sea , you are welcome to try our pike in the castle moat. This fishing is allowed all year round until April and is included in the prices.

The Royal Seatrout program is applicable 1: 1 to cod and flatfish. In the summer months you can even fish for mackerel off Funen.

All year long. The prime time is March to May but the summer months are also great, and the Autumn and Winter can provide big surprises. On the coast is all about the weather. So, please check the forecast for your trip.
